5 Ways to incorporate a spring refresh into your home (and you!)
It’s here. Spring… At least the calendar says it is. Here in the northeast it still feels like winter at times. In this in-between time we may need to help spring along a bit. It can feel like a long time when Mother Nature cannot quite make up her mind which season it is. Here are 5 things I do to help make it at least feel spring(y) when it isn’t here yet..
Flowers – Adding fresh flowers in bright colors (or even white), brings a freshness to an otherwise dreary or stuffy feeling to your home. Especially if it isn’t open window weather quite yet. I like to also pick up tulips or daffodils in dirt that I can re-plant in my yard. Trader Joes has a great variety of flowers at great prices. Check them out!
Mani – I have found that a pop of color on my nails can brighten any mood. Winter is harsh on hands and cuticles can need some extra attention. I love a good neutral until I go strait for the white. You will feel much better after a small self-care act.
Clean-out – I am not a huge fan of spring cleaning but I do like to de-clutter. It can seem overwhelming after a long winter so picking one room at a time and making piles of donate, sell, trash keep it feeling doable. Sites such as Thred Up and Poshmark are great places to sell items that you feel have more value. They are both very user friendly. Added bonus to donating is the tax right off. Keep track of the estimated total of what you paid for the donations and how much you donated for the year.
New Outfit – New clothes always put a spring in my step (pun totally intended). If you can afford to get a new spring outfit great but if you cannot, the site I previously mentioned Thred Up will give you money or “credit” for what you donated and you can shop though their online store. You can essentially trade in your old for a new outfit or staple piece for your wardrobe. You will most likely donate the clothes anyway and this will make room in your closet for the new!
Bedding – Change out your bedding. Whether you get new or just put away the flannel sheets and bring the cotton back out, changing your bedding can make your room feel like a new space. I have a heavy dark comforter that is fleece and super cozy for winter, and I also have a white, lighter weight comforter with a floral design that I use for spring/summer. At the end of both seasons, I send the comforters to be dry cleaned and then store them until needed again. Usually in my laundry room. I will do this with hand towels, dish towels, scatter rugs etc. Unless they take a beating over the season and I need to throw out. I will splurge and get a new welcome mat for the front door!
I hope this helps and gives you a little push if you were feeling stuck.
