SXM Paws in Sint Maarten

An organization that has my whole heart is SXM Paws in St Martin. They are a dog rescue that my pups came from. I have 2 “Coconut Retrievers”, as they’re lovingly called. We recently visited the island and helped out for a bit. It is amazing to me just how cruel some people can be. Thank goodness for the volunteers at SXM Paws and everyone that helps keep it running. It really is a village from the vet on site, to the people that help care for the facility, to those that donate dog food to be dropped off at “feeding locations”. I am excited to spread awareness about this amazing organization and am so grateful to those of you who have already reached out to see how you can help! Let’s get started!

SXM Paws is located in Cole Bay, (Dutch Side) of Sint Maarten. They have a couple of enclosed spaces for the big dogs and lots of kennels for the moms with new puppies.

I was surprised that they can accommodate up to 50 dogs. Sometimes they’re full. Luckily, the day we were there, they were not. There was however, a litter that had just come in. The mom was getting spayed and the pups needed some love and human interaction to prepare for adoption. Paws has a Facebook page HERE and an Instagram HERE .

Paws runs solely on donations and volunteers, which you can reach through their social media pages. We offered our services for the day but also to bring pups home to Boston for anyone looking to adopt. We were set to take 2 but had to cancel because Delta Airline doesn’t allow small pups to be transported. They have to be over 16 weeks and go under the plane. Not okay Delta. We WILL NOT be traveling with them to St Martin again. Even though the day we were there they were not to capacity, there are still plenty of dogs that run around the island while people look the other way. The “feeding sites” are spots around the island where volunteers drop food and the dogs know those spots. They can always use donations to buy more food.

The older dogs need home as well though..so transport can be tough. The big guy laying down at the top right of pic above was lucky enough to catch a ride on a private plane to his new family just a few days ago!

If you are interested in a pup, please reach out to SXM paws through their website HERE , their social media channels, or ME! I can help you get a pup of your own delivered!
