Wine That Pairs With Kids and Horse Shows

Horse shows. They are hot, dirty, and exhausting. My kids LIVE for them. For those of you who don’t know my family, my girls have been riding Morgan horses since they were very young. My oldest started competing when she was 7. The other two, younger. We have bought and sold a few show horses. We recently went to The New England Morgan Horse Show and let me tell you..wine helps us mamas get through the week. Let’s get started!

Here are a few pictures of what my kids have done in the Morgan Horse world…

These photos are an end result of year-round training and practicing at horse shows. New England happens to be the longest for us and therefore requires more alcohol as the week progresses. Watching your kid on a horse is stressful. Watching them compete with a ton of other kids makes me want to throw up. Here’s how us mamas got through the Morgan Horse Show…

*No judgement here for peeps who do/do not drink! All the power to you!

DAY 1: You get to the horse show, everyone is excited (even you) and you go around and say hi to everyone you know. This year, it was pouring and we couldn’t do that so we just drank more.

DAY 2: The rain let up and it was a hot one! You are still fresh and having fun and the kids are still in a good mood so after I get one kid dressed in show clothes, rosé it is!

DAY 3: This wine was actually busted out day 2 evening and carried over to day 3. At this point, more then one kid has shown, all three girls want to stay in other people campers (that’s a thing, staying in campers). We have a large 5th wheel that we use but this time we opted for a hotel. It was great but sometimes made it difficult when everyone wanted to stay (except me).

DAY 4: This wine was opened day 3 evening and carried over. This is my fav cab and it is a little pricier. I brought in case we were celebrating or forgetting something. No, really, I brought two bottles of this and we drank both. At this point the kids are tired, hot, and looking a little homeless from all the dust. They are at me every hour at this point because they have run out of money and want another $9 smoothie.

DAY 5: I know this is supposed to be about wine but three/four (maybe 2) days into the horse show and the vodka was up. Starting day 4 evening and never looked back. I was overtired, hot, sweaty from dressing/undressing kids, irritated from the whining, money grabbing, and complaining, and just wanted to go home. So thats what I did! I packed it up and left Saturday night. Don’t get me wrong, my kids are really good, but at horse shows it’s a different world! Everyone was ready. They all did well showing and once we got in the car it was a quiet ride.

I thank our horse show community for being so supportive! In all honesty, it is a great environment for kids to grow up in. They get to just be kids and have fun. Now that we’re home…I need a vacation from the “vacation”. Thanks for stopping by! As always, feel free to leave me a question/comment in the box below!
